The Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 celebrated cancer awareness month under the slogan “our children are heroes”. The celebration is held annually in the beginning of September. Because of the Corona crisis the celebration was held with the participation of a small number of children along with their families while taking all the precautionary procedures.
The celebration was organized by the Hospital’s awareness team in cooperation with other departments such as the volunteering department, the art therapy workshop, the patient’s education committee, psychological support department, and nutrition department. Participating in the event were a group of the Hospital’s heroes who have defeated cancer. Also attending on-line were the students of Narmer Language School in Altagamoe and the event was diffused by the Hospital, live on facebook.
The celebration featured shows with cartoon characters such as Fagr and Superman, a play by our volunteers about our heroes and their battle against cancer and singing by the Hospital’s children choir.
Via short films, many important information was communicated about cleanliness and its importance in protecting us from diseases and awareness of cancer causes and Corona causes. Dr. Heba Alnokoudi, from thepatient education section presented important information about the right way to deal with medications and the importance of asking the doctor about it. Dr. Golson Saleh spoke about the right therapeutic nutrition and its importance for the success of our children’s treatment journey. Awareness booklets were given to children while doctors and specialists answered the families’ questions about the proper protection methods that should be applied outside the Hospital.
Dr. Ola Mohamed, head of 57357’s awareness department spoke about the role of the department in spreading awareness to protect our 57357’s children and our society in general. She spoke about the causes of cancer and of Corona virus and a number of diseases, while stressing on awareness and its role in decreasing the rate of cancer infection, since protection is better than treatment.
Omar and Aya, who have defeated cancer, presented their experience in 57357, and the role of the Hospital in providing them with all kinds of support which helped them realize their dreams where Aya joined the Faculty of Pharmacy and she’s in grade five now, and dreaming of working for 57357 after graduation. Omar joined the Faculty of Computer Sciences, and as he likes acting, he shared in the volunteers’ play. Omar used to share in the plays presented in the Hospital and he trained the Hospital’s children on acting.
