If we only look at numbers, an 0.5% increase in the survival rate might seem too little but it is different if we are considering what this increase represents in terms of number of children who were granted survival. Thanks be to God, we could add this number to the survivors list, while everyday we get closer to the world survival rate of 80%.
In Hospital 57357, our target and concern is the survival rate. We dream of safely bringing back each and every child in the Hospital to his home and family. This is not just the Hospital staff’s dream, it is the dream of all Egyptians who entrusted us with the care and cure of those children
How do we calculate an over-all survival rate ?
Hospital 57357 is completely automated. It carries an automated system to calculate survival rates. Initially, the system enables the recording of patients data and everything regarding their treatment stages, while following up and updating their numbers throughout the treatment period and after recovery, which causes changes in the survival rate according to changes in records.
For more accuracy of data, the Hospital returns to the civil status authority, to follow up on patients who have cut relationship with the Hospital to make sure of their survival status, and update the recorded data. Hence the announced survival rates are accurate and up to date. The survival rates are announced twice a year, in January and June.
Still remains the inquiry about the factors behind the increase?” and the value of celebrating a child’s last chemotherapy session?
The answer is in few words, “ quality care .. education and research”
These words are the main pillars of any proper and good healthcare. They embody the provision of full time doctors who are pursuing continuous learning, and are engaged in research studies at the same time, as we won’t achieve improvement except with research. They also embody up to date automated labs to avoid human mistakes, efficient clinical pharmacy department to prepare the treatment dose suitable for each patient and submitting it on time, a medical engineering department to follow up on buying and updating equipment at the same time performing periodic maintenance to preserve them, the application of strict procedures for infection control, accuracy and regularity in supply chains work, strict systems for safety and professional health for protecting patients and employees. This is in addition to a home like, family centered care facility, a therapeutic nutrition department to take care of the child’s nutrition as a main factor to raise his immunity, and many more details, that we invite you to see for yourself.
As we mentioned, we are concerned with only one number, that is the survival rate. We are working on increasing the number of bone marrow transplantation beds to 27 beds, to increase survival rates as promised.
Being a charity institution does not mean it cannot offer the best quality care. When any of us falls sick, we try to find the best doctor and the best hospital; aren’t children with cancer worthy to deserve the best of care?
All what we mentioned above is not luxury as some people think, but our children’s lives are in our hands until they become safe. We cannot accept dereliction and negligence when our children with cancer are concerned. What we are doing now is a legacy for generations to come.
