Cancer patients face many complications that cause nutritional issues due to their illness or the side effects of treatments (surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation), including:

Diarrhea:

Severe diarrhea can lead to: dehydration, weakness, loss of appetite, and weight loss. If a child experiences diarrhea, it may be helpful to:

Avoid high-fiber foods, like dried fruits and vegetables, especially green ones like cauliflower, broccoli, and whole grains.

Avoid greasy foods high in fat, such as fried foods and “heavy” meals.

Avoid sodas and drinks that contain caffeine.

Avoid drinks high in sugar like sweetened juices.

Limit milk and dairy products to no more than 2 cups of milk a day, but there’s no problem with having yogurt or fermented milk.

Make sure to drink plenty of water and permitted beverages to avoid dehydration, aiming for at least 8 cups daily.
