In a new development towards improving the service provided to our children, the Hospital started operating a newer version of the PET/CT equipment with the latest state of the art technology. Hospital 57357 is the first in Egypt to offer this technology. Chatting with Dr. Walid Omar, professor of nuclear medicine and head of 57357’s nuclear medicine department, he explains that the new PET/CT machine offers higher precision and speed in imaging cancer cells. It is equipped with a high resolution detector that spots tumor cells at very early stages and discards images taken during respiration, saving only fixed ones which is a new technology enabling to avoid repeating the imaging in case the patient moved.
The equipment is funded by the Commercial International Bank, CIB, which has previously granted the hospital the latest technology intra-operative MRI that is used in imaging brain tumors during surgeries. The intra-operative MRI contributes to higher success rates for brain surgeries and reduced post-surgery complications as it helps removing the tumor cells completely while preserving the surrounding brain tissue.
Using the new PET/CT equipment along with the old one will enable us to serve more patients and eliminate the waiting list, as we would be serving 60 patients daily. It will also contribute to faster decision making regarding the treatment plan. Besides eliminating the waiting lists, the new equipment will enable the hospital to provide the service to external patients for a competitive price as the hospital is in possession of the cyclotron which provides the required radio-active elements necessary for performing this type of scan.
Hospital 57357 is working hard to offer latest technology that contributes to the success of our children’s treatment journey. This is made possible thanks to one of our most committed partners, CIB, who never ceased to demonstrate throughout years of cooperation, that it is not just a bank but a strong partner in development and quality enhancement.
