In 57357, everyday there is a story of a brave fighter who defeats cancer after a long tough battle. Today we met one of them, Mohamed, who is 9 years old and comes from Port Saeed. He was admitted to the hospital in 2016 where he was diagnosed with leukemia. Currently Mohamed has completed his treatment and started the follow up phase.
Mohamed’s father , a physiotherapist, shared with us his son’s experience in 57357: Mohamed’s ordeal started with a severe fever, and after going through blood tests his doctor advised to take him to 57357. I am an old-time donor of the Hospital, but had not taken the time to visited it. I was convinced that it is the best place for providing care and treatment to my son as I used to follow up on their scientific achievements and their survival rates which are close to world rates. When his turn came, he was admitted in. There, we found compassionate comprehensive care along with latest treatment protocols provided to everyone equally, which left no chance for favoritism as rumors seemed to imply. As a physician I found it hard to accept my son’s illness, but the Hospital made it easy for me as they surrounded my son and my family with utmost care.
In the beginning we met Dr. Shaymaa, who was so understanding as she dealt with our distress and breakdown, my wife and myself . Mohamed started chemotherapy immediately and every day at the Hospital I used to discover added services they provided for the comfort and safety of the patient and family besides my son’s treatment.
Awareness lectures on how to deal with him at home and in the Hospital made a big difference in our handling of his case. Entertainment activities to ease his pain and lift up his spirits as well as alleviating the psychological burden on my son and on us. Soon enough, I realized that my son was receiving the best psychological and physical care besides clinical nutrition services that ensured he got the proper nutrients with consideration to his requests for food he likes.
In 57357, I am confident that my son is in good hands as it became a second home for us where my son is growing up, pursuing his education in 57357’s school and practicing his hobbies in the art workshop. He learned painting and playing chess while receiving utmost care for free. Mohamed’s illness was an ordeal and a tough test but 57357 was our savior: through evidence-based practices and research, it provided my son the latest treatment services, and thanks to their kindness and compassion, Mohamed forgot his pain, and his mother and I could be reassured.
My message to everyone is that 57357 deserves that we all rally around it, as they are committed to achieving cure for our children with cancer. After fear of losing my son I am now appeased because there is a place that can treat him and lead him to safety. Today I am celebrating with my son the completion of his treatment, his victory over the disease, and proudness of having a place like 57357 in Egypt. I am inviting everyone to support the Hospital with donations as every pound makes a difference in a child’s life.
Mohamed’s wishes after recovery
I wish to become a football player and join the police academy to become an athlete and a hero at the same time. I love the Hospital and the art workshop, the clown Karawan and Ms. Amany are my friends. I also like Ms. Sahar as she gives me injections without pain. Today I’ll receive vaccination and I am not afraid.
As we congratulate Mohamed for his recovery, we are wishing recovery for all of 57357’s children.
