As COVID-19 continues to threaten us in Egypt and around the world, the future has never felt so unpredictable. Nevertheless, with vaccination campaigns speeding up everywhere at last, maybe the light is at the end of the tunnel. To live Ramadan with masks and social distancing is an unpleasant experience, but for us all we hope to spend it in peace, health, and high spirits.
To all our donors, charity partners, faithful supporters we wish you during the holy month to be filled with serenity and faith that a better world awaits us after the Covid 19 crisis and that Life will triumph over disease and suffering (God Willing).
Last year, just as the whole world was facing difficult circumstances because of the Corona pandemic, at Hospital 57357, we too were struggling hard to overcome the adverse effects of the crisis, delivering the same quality services to an increasing number of patients despite a sharp decline of donations.
Presently at the Hospital, we’re doing our utmost to run our daily operations with maximum safety and protection to our patients and staff and to be at the service of our community. As such, we established an equipped isolation department for children patients, staff and families hit by Covid 19 as well as a chest clinic. The service of the chest clinic as well as corona diagnostic tests, lab services, and corona medication are available to the public at unique prices.
The good news is that 2020 was still a year of achievements for the 14 year old 57357 Institution despite the world pandemic
- The number of beds was increased with 40 more in a new in-patient treatment building in the vicinity of the hospital to become 360 beds. Tanta Branch also expanded its capacity.
- The Hospital received 3356 new cases, 48 cases more than in 2019.
- The average overall survival rate improved: it reached 71.7%, versus 71.2% in 2019.
- 1,61493 lab tests versus 1,446,265 in 2019 were performed with high accuracy and speed, as the labs were upgraded to include the world’s latest equipment.
- In clinical pharmacy, the Hospital provided 2,600,379 chemotherapy and medication doses, prepared and given to patients according to world sterilization standards, using most accurate and latest equipment.
- The Hospital pursued its equipment up-grading operation to offer the latest equipment to ensure maximum safety and comfort to its patients including the replacement of its entire fleet of beds and infusion and syringes pumps.
- 2020 witnessed the highest rate of research papers release, where 67 papers were published in cooperation with Egyptian and international universities in international scientific journals.
- With respect to education, and preparing a new generation of qualified professional cadres, the Hospital pursued the provision of existing training programs: the joint 57357/Dana Farber Boston Children’s pediatric oncology fellowship program , the Joint Commission International, JCI diploma, the pharmacist residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, ASHP, accreditation. New training programs have been added, such as the radiotherapy fellowship, clinical innovation fellowship, resident doctor program in clinical pathology and the resident doctor program in radiotherapy
A hopeful future awaits us
Thanks to your support, we are more than ever committed to our program and capacity expansion goals to raise cure rates, maximize patients’ outcomes and admit a larger number of children with cancer.
- We are getting ready to open the cyber knife building, which is a new innovative technology for surgical radiotherapy that remarkably reduces the side effects of the usual radiotherapy.
- Currently we are working to complete our new out-patient facility project which will enable us to eliminate waiting lists and develop our bone marrow transplant unit to triple our capacity in this specialization. It is noteworthy that the number of bone marrow transplant cases carried out increased to 65 from 38 in 2019.
