New Egypt Group held an entertainment celebration for 57357’s children in the Hospital’s recreation center early May on the occasion of the Ramadan feast. The celebration was attended by a New Egypt Group delegation, parliament member Ghada Ali, the Group’s regional director in Egypt and the Middle East and a big group of the Hospital’s volunteers. It is noteworthy that New Egypt Group is an Egyptian non-profit group which is building a bridge between the Egyptian community in the USA and their home country Egypt. New Egypt Group performs many activities and exerts efforts in many fields such as education, development and women’s empowerment towards building a bright future using the energy and expertise of Egypt’s finest sons and daughters inside and outside our beloved country Egypt. It is also committed to extending support to the most needy in the community.
The celebration featured entertaining events including singing and tanoura dancing with the participation of the patients of the Hospital, those who recovered and those still under treatment. The nice celebration delighted all attendees and contributed to lifting up the spirit of the patients.
Sharing her impression of the day, Dr. Ali revealed: Today we can see a dream that came true in 57357. We can see the development of the recreation center, which proves that art plays a big role during the treatment of sick children. It helps children overcome their pain and provides them with moral support; this is a wonderful place that carries an important message.
Mrs. Amani Ibrahim, head of 57357 Hospital’s recreation center to respond: the Hospital is one of the first institutions in Egypt that focus on the psychological wellbeing of the patient and the usage of art to bring moral support to the children. At the center, in our dealings, we concentrate on the humanitarian aspect and give close attention to the patients’ expressive actions . She sent a message to the Egyptian community in New York that stresses on the importance of supporting the recreation center for its importance in treating children with cancer.
Khaled Saraya, one of the Hospital’s survivors: I received treatment here in 57357, and the art therapy workshop played a big role in helping me bear the treatment. Now, in turn, I volunteer in the recreation center to help my brothers who are still under treatment. I invite everyone to volunteer, and visit the recreation center to see the big effect of art on patients, including myself.
Volunteer Amr Alsuhagi, captain of Egypt’s national Paralympic swimming team: the recreation center was expanded and became a big department with many sub sections that help children discover their talents and support their psychological wellbeing. It leaves a good effect on children, art therapy is an important part of treating children with cancer.
At the end of the celebration, Dr. Ali along with New Egypt delegation visited our children in their rooms and offered them nice gifts while wishing them quick recovery.
