Dr. Mahmoud Hamad, bone marrow transplantation consultant: the BMT process is one of the ways to increase survival rate of high risk and relapsing tumor patients
The BMT process is considered a renewed hope to overcome cancer, moreover, it is considered the only treatment protocol for many cases. Therefore, Hospital 57357 is currently pursuing an expansion project to increase BMT rooms from 9 to 27 to meet the high demand for BMT.
In his announcement about the Hospital’s plan and strategy to expand the BMT unit, Dr. Alzemaity said; “the Hospital’s optimal goal is to reach a cancer free childhood, relying on research and continuous education and development”. As for Dr. Hamad, he affirms that “the Hospital is seeking to raise over-all survival rates to reach the world rate of 83% or higher”. Dr. Hamad asserted that the Hospital plan is to expand the BMT unit to be able to increase the number of patients receiving BMT to 300 cases a year.
Dr. Alzemaity highlighted the different ways through which we can support the Hospital in expanding the BMT unit, which are ongoing sadaka “sadaka garya”, a charitable trust or sponsoring a child who needs a BMT.
