After a complete studying year, Hospital 57357 celebrated the graduation of the fifth cohort of the resident pharmacist program, that included 17 students from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. The program is accredited by the American Society of health system pharmacists, ASHP, as the first program in Africa obtaining this accreditation. This is one of the programs adopted by the Hospital’s continuous medical education department, to prepare professional qualifications in the health field.
The graduates expressed their happiness with the program and its role in improving their practical skills, which opens the door for them to develop their professional skills and climb the ladder of their careers
“Our study for a complete year in 57357 was a privilige for us, the Hospital is a great project that stands as a source of pride to all the Arab countries “, revealed Dr. Hatem Ebaid Abdullah Alselimi. We have benefitted greatly from the program and enjoyed the learning atmosphere so much so that we feel sad that the year came to an end. I heard about the program from my colleagues in Saudi Arabia, but didn’t expect it to be that advanced. The study included theoretical and practical parts as they were concerned to see us applying what we have studied through spending time in all clinical pharmacy units (more than 30 units). During our tours we witnessed the importance of the role of the clinical pharmacist in all the Hospital’s departments such as in the operating rooms, intensive care, outpatient clinics, inpatient department and others. When I return back to Saudi Arabia I’ll take back what I have learned to apply it in the cancer hospital I am working for, to activate the clinical pharmacist role, he added.
Pharmacists in 57357 are very cooperative, and the Hospital’s general manager met with us personally. He made us feel at home from day one. The program was a great addition that will help me improve my practical skills, hence I decided to join the program’s second part once the Hospital announces it, said Dr. Elselimi.
I am following Hospital 57357’s website, and that is how I knew about the program . Before joining the program I was just a pharmacist, now I am a clinical pharmacist, said Abdullah El-Atique. Pharmacy is no more about selling medications as it used to be. It is now a larger and more comprehensive specialty. In 57357, they apply clinical pharmacy thoroughly and accurately. A complete year of intensive study that included lengthy visits to all clinical pharmacy units to get acquainted with the pharmacist’s role in each unit. All lecturers have been very cooperative and flexible.Nobody is stingy with information and support. Before coming here, I knew that 57357 is an up to date leading charitable cancer Hospital, but I discovered that it is also a learning and research institution, he added.
I am looking forward to he second part of the program
My wife encouraged me to join Hospital 57357’s resident pharmacist program after she read an ad about it during her visit to Egypt, said Dr. Fihan Ebaid Alzaini. In fact my benefit from the program exceeded my expectations. I was impressed by the advanced technology and up to date equipment in the Hospital’s clinical pharmacy department as well as the quality and accuracy I saw in the medication preparation labs. I learned a lot in all the pharmacy units and in the information technology department. I saw for myself how to check on information in patients’ files and tests results. Besides the scientific part of the program, we learned how to improve personal skills such as writing and giving lectures, leadership skills, and others. I wish to join the program’s second part.
According to Dr. Mohamed Nagui, head of the clinical pharmacy department, the resident pharmacy program started in 2018, aiming to develop pharmacy practices and to train the resident to be a qualified pharmacist capable of applying what he has learned.
The study’s duration is one year, during which the student is trained in all clinical pharmacy specialties. Five cohorts have graduated during the last 5years contributing to making changes and developing clinical pharmacy.
ASHP is one of the global most important institutions responsible for the applications and programs of clinical pharmacy. They visited Hospital 57357 in 2018 and reported that the institution is eligible to launch a resident pharmacist international program . ASHP are following up periodically through visits to the Hospital to guaranty performance quality.
Hospital 57357 is considered a leader in clinical pharmacy specialty in Egypt. Thanks to the Hospital, this specialty was introduced to many Hospitals of the Ministry of Health and universities inside and outside Egypt through knowledge transfer and training medical cadres.
