Antibiotic resistance and what you can do about it?
Antibiotic Resistance:
- Antibiotic resistance happens when bacteria change and become resistant to the antibiotics used to treat the infections they cause.
- This resistance harms our ability to treat infectious diseases and undermines much of the progress made in medicine.
- We need to handle antibiotics carefully to keep them effective for as long as possible.
What can you do?
- Only use antibiotics that are prescribed by a certified professional doctor.
- Always make sure to complete the prescription even if you start feeling better.
- Never use leftover antibiotics.
- Don’t share antibiotics with others.
- Make sure to prevent infections by regularly washing your hands, avoiding close contact with sick people, and keeping up to date with your vaccinations.
- Be aware that antibiotics are not effective against viral infections like colds and flu.
- Don’t pressure your doctor to prescribe an antibiotic, nor should you request a specific antibiotic.
