Ambassador Suha Guendy, Minister of Immigration and expatriate Egyptians’ affairs, visited the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 to offer support to the children and get acquainted with the Hospital’s different services and operations. The ambassador was welcomed by Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, chairman of the board of trustees of Hospital 57357 and Dr. Sherif Abuel Naga, 57357 Group CEO and the Hospital’s general manager.
This visit follows the Minister’s trip to the USA last month to participate in ECN,US’s main annual fundraiser which is one of the most successful charitable activities and the most attended by donors.
The ambassador toured the Hospital where she met with children and got acquainted with the Hospital’s services, spending some time at the research department which is is considered one of the best research centers in the Middle East in the field of cancer and is headed by Dr. Shahenda Alnagar, a previously expatriate Egyptian who came back after 13 years in the USA. She met with the heads of the different research units Dr. Sameh Magdel Din, who also came back after 13 years of working in the USA and Japan, Dr. Sameh Saad who worked with Dr. Ahmed Zwail in 2018, and Dr. Rami Aziz, head of the Microbiology department.
The Minister visited the lab, the nuclear medicine department, inpatient rooms, the play room and the art therapy recreation center in which children learn drawing, storytelling, handicrafts, music and get to discover their potential talents. The art center pursues to attract children to spend a nice time and forget about their sickness. It gives them the chance to practice the activities they like and express their thoughts and feelings, which contributes to supporting their psychological well-being and is reflected on their response to treatment.
The Minister also stopped at the kitchen where patient meals are prepared. She saw the food preservation trollies which were acquired thanks to ECN-USA donations. The Minister communicated with the children and met with volunteers, pharmacists and nursing teams that includes 30 trainees from Saudi Arabia and Emirates. She visited the clinical pharmacy and saw how the medications are dispensed automatically.
In her speech, the Minister expressed her happiness with her visit to the Children’s Cancer Hospital and said; “Egypt is usually renowned for its ancient history and civilization, but when talking about the present and the future within the medical field, it is identified by a number of distinguished institutions, on top of them is the Egyptian medication city and a number of important Hospitals that are renowned in the Middle East, such as 57357.
She pointed to the Hospital’s achievements in research and said we should highlight them in the media.
She mentioned her visit to the USA, and her participation in the 15th annual celebration of ECN. She shared that she didn’t hesitate in accepting the invitation as an official mission, where the Egyptian state supports the Hospital’s humanitarian role and mission.
The Minister asserted the Ministry’s readiness to support the Hospital and promote its important role among expatriate Egyptians as the Ministry is eager to support the continuity of the Hospital’s mission. “It is an integrated medical, educational and research institution that gives hope for a better future for children with cancer, said the Minister.
