Hospital 57357 accepts all children with cancer regardless of race, creed, or social background on a first come first served basis . There are three clearly spelled out criteria for admission: the child’s age is between 0 and 18, he or she has not received any treatment before and is referred to the Hospital as a potential cancer case. We don’t admit patients according to the severity of their condition , as we are not an emergency hospital. For us, all cancer cases are urgent, and priority is given to the first comers. The patient’s journey of admission starts at the out-patient clinics where tests are carried out to confirm the cancer diagnosis. If admission criteria are met and a place is available at the hospital, the patient is admitted immediately. If there is no room at the Hospital, the patient is put on a waiting list or referred to another cancer center if he needs urgent care.
North American statistics indicate that there is one child with cancer in every 330 children under the age of 18. According to Egypt’s demographics, 42% of the population are under 18 years, which means that the children segment of the population is high, accordingly the incidences of children with cancer are also high. Hospital 57357 cannot absorb all these cases. This large number of children with cancer should be distributed all over Egyptian hospitals that offer pediatric oncology healthcare services, these account for more than 17 hospitals.
Abiding by the constraints of our present admission capacity ensures that we offer the best quality care and treatment to all our patients. There is an internal waiting list which is carefully studied. As soon as a child is admitted, we make sure to allow for all his needs all during the treatment period which could extend to 3 years.
The needs are varied and could include a bed, medication, lab tests, scans, surgeries, and nutritive meals. Everything is carefully and rigorously provided for because the careful application of the treatment protocol is a vital condition for the success of the treatment.

Why are platelets so important?
Platelets are tiny cells in your blood that helps to stop bleeding. Cancer patients are a primary recipient of platelets as they are essential to surviving and fighting cancer, chronic diseases, and traumatic injuries as illustrated by the following:
Platelets give cancer patients the strength they need to keep fighting.
While cancer patients undergo treatment, a major side effect is low platelet count. Without a platelet transfusion cancer patients face life-threatening bleeding because platelets help blood to clot.
Platelets also help patients survive major surgeries or serious injuries.
After major surgery or serious injury, patients may need platelets to replace those lost during bleeding. Platelets keep them alive while they recover.
Platelets give strength to patients with blood disorders and those with transplants.
Platelets transfusions go a long way to help keep these patients going and live more active, healthy lives.
Platelets must be used within five days and new donors are needed every day. That’s why we need you.
Platelet donation is a little different than a regular whole blood donation. Here is how:
– Platelets can only be donated at 57357’s Donor Center. They cannot be given at a blood mobile drive.Perhaps you’ve heard an appeal for blood donation that says: we’re running low on certain blood types.
That doesn’t mean other types aren’t valuable: there’s always a need and purpose for every type of blood.
Here’s what we’re looking for today: All Types whether you’re A, B, AB or O – or unknown – all types of blood are valuable and can help save lives.
This is an ill-founded claim, since the severity of the case cannot be determined during admission. The patient goes through medical investigation such as blood count, x-rays, blood analyses, microbiological analysis, and others, these investigations take place after the patient is admitted. The investigations will determine at which stage of the illness the patient is .In some cases, the patient may start the treatment being at the first stage, then he might not show improvement in response to medication and become a critical condition case.

Yes, donating blood is safe. We always use new, sterile blood bag that are discarded after one use.
You’ll even be given a mini-physical exam at your appointment, to ensure you are healthy enough to donate that day. We’ll check your blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin.
Whole blood and Platelet donations are performed in a highly-controlled environment by professionally trained staff.
Each platelet donation is collected through a new, sterile kit that is used once and then discarded.
