Infection Control Lab
The infection control lab makes simple microbiological tests to ensure the quality of the decontamination process in all hospital departments and the environment's safety for children and patients. This is under the supervision of Prof Dr. Nagwa Khamis, Head of the department. Dr. Amal Hosny/ Dr. Nancy Salah (Dr. Amal completed her training in the infection control lab of Ain Shams University before joining 57357) is responsible for the daily work of environment hygiene and patient screening. The “I am clean” initiative was set up through the infection control lab. It encourages keeping the work environment free of microbes. It also aims to achieve a change of behavior in the long term.
We are now assessing food hygiene as an internal audit of food safety in the hospital.
Screening of patients upon admission for carriage of MDR bacteria is performed as a welcome swab.
Regarding the performance of the department during the COVID-19 Pandemic:
The team has shown perfect daily work and performance since the very beginning of the pandemic, as we were ready with a preparedness policy for Emerging Global Threatening Infectious Diseases since the last JCI review.
We are organized and structured regarding the proactive planning for:
- Isolation.
- Education.
- Risk assessment and communication.
- Screening of Healthcare workers.
- Resilience.
Notably, the infection control department was an integral partner of the Foundation’s crisis management committee.
Now, we are making over our IPC program to reinforce the implementation of IPC policies and procedures in the post-pandemic phase.
