The course aims to improve nurses’ comprehension, proficiency, and adherence to infection control standards practiced in hospitals when caring for pediatric oncology patients.

By the end of the program, the intern will be able to know more about:

  1. Define how pathogenic organisms may be spread in healthcare setting and factors that influence the outcome of an exposure.
  2. Differentiate between modes of infection transmission.
  3. Recognize and apply all elements of standard precautions.
  4. Recognize and apply the 5 moments of hand hygiene.
  5. Recognize and implement bundles of care to prevent surgical site infection, ventilation associated pneumonia and catheter related blood stream infection.
  6. Deal with multidrug resistance organisms.
  7. Recognize specific procedures for each type of isolation (air born, droplet and contact).
