Mechanical ventilation is one of the most applied interventions in intensive care units (ICUs) and is the most single indication for ICU referral. As a result of the revolutionary changes made in the field of mechanical ventilation the need of updated training the field of neonatal and pediatric mechanical ventilation that aid any health care provider to rapidly and properly understand how does a specific modern ventilator actually function and to be aware of all precautions needed to avoid potential complications associated with the use of mechanical ventilation and also to alert the physicians about any critical situations that allow a rapid intervention in a time fashion thereby improving the patient outcome .

By the end of this course participant will be able to:

  1. Understand The rationale for use of mechanical ventilation in all critically-ill neonates and children in different critical situations.
  2. Recognize The appropriate time for initiation of mechanical ventilation in different critical situations to avoid unnecessary ventilator support or delay any emergency ventilator intervention.
  3. Understand how modern neonatal and pediatric mechanical ventilators actually function according to each manufacture.
  4. Apply all measures needed to avoid potential complications associated with the use of mechanical ventilation to provide safe and effective ventilation with a minimum of adverse effects.
  5. Recognize of all red flag signs during mechanical ventilation and Proper dealing with any unexpected critical situation or complication until a more expert clinician arrives to decrease morbidity and mortality associated with the use of mechanical ventilation.
