Dear Future Colleague,
It is one year specified training program in Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (“Neuro-Oncology Fellowship”) which is designed to offer clinical education and training to prepare international providers with needed skills to manage children and young adults with central nervous system (“CNS”) tumors. This innovative program will provide structured clinical training in pediatric neuro-oncology at the home institution, The Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357 (“57357”), supported by ongoing mentorship at the other institutions as described herein.
The fellowship program at 57357 includes a comprehensive 12-month training in neuro-oncology services, designed to provide in-depth clinical and research exposure. Trainees will spend 2 months in inpatient care, managing hospitalized patients with CNS tumors and focusing on acute care and multidisciplinary treatment. A 5-month rotation in outpatient care includes managing long-term patient follow-ups and conducting a dedicated research project. The program also offers 3 weeks in neuro-pathology, gaining expertise in tumor histopathology; 3 weeks in neuro-radiology, focusing on interpreting diagnostic imaging; and 3 weeks in a basic research laboratory, exploring the molecular and cellular aspects of CNS tumors. Additionally, trainees will complete 2 weeks in radiation oncology, understanding its application in treatment, and 1 week in neurosurgery, observing surgical procedures for CNS tumors. This structured rotation schedule ensures the trainee acquires a well-rounded expertise in pediatric neuro-oncology. The program also includes a one-month onsite rotation at the University of Alabama, specifically at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama, and another one-month rotation at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute-Boston Children’s Hospital.
