Venous Access Device Workshop-ANCC
Overview
This course focuses on developing knowledge, skills and practice about central venous access devices (CVADs) and procedures as insertion and removal of portcath needle, taking blood sample and culture, heparin lock for portcath, central line and hickman, dressing of portcath, central line and hickman to improve staff competence by dealing with CVADs and decrease infection rate among pediatric oncology patients.
Objectives
- List 3 types of device.
- Recognize 4 indications of Central Venous Access Devices (CVADs).
- List 3 advantages of CVADs.
- List 3 disadvantages of CVADs.
- List 3 post-operative precautions of CVADs.
- Demonstrate properly insertion of portcath needle.
- Demonstrate properly removal of portcth needle.
- Demonstrate taking of blood sample and culture from CVADs.
- Demonstrate heparin lock for CVADs.
- Demonstrate all steps in dressing of CVADs.
- Identify 3 complications of CVADs.
- Describe management of the 3 complications listed.
