Fatema is a 15 years old heroine from Cairo, in second grade high school. She was admitted to the Hospital in 2014 where she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the left eye. The tumor was removed and she continued her treatment until 2015 when she was declared cancer-free. In 2017 she had a relapse, but this time the eye was removed to prevent the tumor from extending to the brain. After the surgery she had chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. She finished her treatment in 2018, and now she is in the follow up phase. She had a cosmetic surgery to prepare the removed eye cavity for an artificial eye.
Fatema is bravely talking about her journey in fighting cancer and about her dreams. “I strongly believe in God’s will, and I am not sad, now I am cured and in the follow up phase with Dr. Abdullah Alhuseiny, the surgeon who did my surgery”, said Fatema. “Dr. Alhuseiny is my friend, he helped me a lot, explaining my disease and alleviating its burden on me. I love him a lot, and sometimes I come to the Hospital just to say hello to him. 57357 means a lot to me as they treated me and helped me practice drawing, my hobby in the art therapy workshop. I wish to finish high school successfully next year and join the faculty of fine art or the faculty of translation. I have a dream which I am confident I’ll realize it, when I finish one of the two faculties I’ll join the other one, to gain multiple experiences”, added Fatema.
The word hero falls short of fairly describing our children who bear a lot of suffering throughout their lengthy treatment journey that may include a relapse. Nevertheless, they fight courageously the fierce disease and overcome cancer. Despite their suffering, they don’t forget about their dreams, they are bravely determined to realize them and to pursue their normal lives.
Our congratulations to Fatema for defeating cancer, and thank you to all our donors who are always supporting our children throughout their battle with the illness.
