The conference was held in attendance of prof. Dr. Sherif Abouel Naga, 57357 group CEO and the Hospital’s general manager as honorary president of the conference, Prof. Dr. Alaa Elhadad, the conference president and head of pediatric oncology department at Hospital 57357’s and the National Cancer Institute, NCI, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Hamad, the conference’s secretary general, 22 foreign experts from the USA and Europe and speakers from leading international organizations. The conference that included a number of scientific and educational sessions lasted three days from the 5th to the 7th of October.
Throughout the three days, the conference featured educational and discussion sessions about the challenges related to hematology, pediatric solid tumors, infectious diseases, hematopoietic stem cells transplantation, lack of immunity, cellular therapy and research. Two special sessions were held, one of them is about Cart T cells treatment and how this innovated immuno- therapy can change the treatment of children with leukemia, lymphoma and other malignant tumors, while the second session was about primary immuno -dysfunction. This session was held with the sponsorship of Jeffrey Modell Foundation, which is an international leading foundation in promoting research, education and awareness about primary immunodeficiency.
The conference is a good opportunity to initiate partnerships and collaborations in the fields of bone marrow transplantation, and hematology, and to establish valuable communication with national and international experts in this field, revealed Dr. Elhadad.
The conference’s third day was held in Hospital 57357’s premises and included lectures by a stellar group of doctors, namely: Dr. Hesham Abdel Azeem, Dr. Jennifer McArthur, Dr. Hesham Eisa from the US and through video conferencing Dr. Meggilla Canza, Dr. Analisa Rogoury from Italy, Dr. Hanan Ibrahim from Pfizer Co. Cairo, Dr. Mustafa Elfeshawy from Biometrics Co. Cairo, and Dr. Reham Abdel Aziz, Dr. Youssef Madeny and Dr. Rami Aziz from Hospital 57357. They covered a variety of topics about bone marrow transplantation, the complications that patients may experience, infectious diseases, donor lymphocytes transfusion strategies and noninfectious complications in pediatrics post stem cell transplantation.
At the end of the conference, prof. Dr. Hossam Kamel, hematology, pediatric oncology department , Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Hesham Eisa, general manager of stem cells bank, Dr. Leslie Lehman, hematology and bone marrow transplantation consultant, Boston Hospital, USA, Dr. Sajad Khazal, pediatric hematology oncology professor in the USA and Dr. Shahenda Elnagar, head of Hospital 57357’s research department, were honored for their efforts and contributions in the field of pediatric hematology oncology and research.
Through scientific exchange with major international universities and scientific institutions, Hospital 57357 pursues to improve diagnostic and treatment protocols of pediatric oncology, to raise survival rates, and to move forward to realize its vision of being an international model of change towards a cancer -free childhood.
