When doctors told me that my 9 year old daughter Rodaina is the only one that can donate bone marrow to her 2 year old sister Mecca, I got really scared and concerned about both of them. I wished I could be the donor to my daughter but it so happened that the perfect 100% match would be only between Rodaina and Mecca.I hesitated at first, but my faith in God and my trust in the expertise of 57357’s doctors and in the capabilities and standard of the Hospital made me agree with this plan. Thanks to God’s grace the transplant operation was a success and my 2 daughters are fine. The mother goes on: Mecca was deprived of laughing and giggling since she was born. The disease attacked her when she was only 4 months old. Suddenly, I felt that she was hardly developing and her skin turned yellow. Her temperature would frequently soar. We made a blood picture and discovered that her platelets and blood count was low. The doctor asked for a bone marrow aspiration after which he informed us that she had leukemia. He advised us not to give her any treatment and to rush to Hospital 57357.At the Hospital, we were informed about the seriousness of her condition, that she needed chemotherapy, after which a bone marrow transplantation to increase her chances of cure. They started a heavy chemotherapy treatment after which they prepared her for the bone marrow transplantation (BMT). We then discovered that a large number of children need a BMT but they are waiting for their turn as the unit for this procedure is presently expanding its limited capacity from 9 to 27 beds to reduce the waiting list of patients.I wanted to cry out loud and beg people to donate for this important expansion. I posted on facebook my concern and the need to address it urgently to save my little child and all similar cases.Thank God Mecca got the BMT 3 months ago and her sister was the perfect match.Rodaina knew that she was donating to her sister. Despite her fear of needles, she agreed to go through the procedure because she wanted to save her sister. Rodaina was very happy after the success of the procedure and started telling her story to all friends, relatives and neighbours which made her little brother jealous; he also wanted to donate his bone marrow like her.I am thanking God every moment and pray that he blesses and protects this Hospital and that donations would keep increasing to enable it to save the children that are in need of BMT
