Within the context of 57357 vision and mission and responsibility for importing up-to-date advances in pediatric oncology care and continuous learning and development, the Hospital welcomed Dr. Matthew J. Ehrhardt, assistant member, Department of Oncology Division of Cancer Survivorship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dr. Ehrhardt was invited to a guided tour of the Hospital including the cytopathology lab, main lab, clinical pharmacy, art therapy department, daycare unit, in-patient ward, basic research, and clinical research departments. Dr. Ehrhardt was impressed by the collaborative efforts and team spirit provided by the different staff members at 57357 at all levels, commenting: “since I walked through the door I could see all the dedication and passion that comes from all people involved.” He was especially interested in research collaboration work with 57357 in the area of lymphoma disease and survivorship care. He praised the technologies used in the pharmaceutical department by describing it as outstanding and the art therapy department efforts in boosting the morale of children through drawing, art shows and music.
In a meeting with 57357 continuous education team, Dr. Ehrhardt qualified the 57357 fellowship program as one of 57357’s points of strength . “I had the opportunity to hear about the clinical fellowship, and the excellent training opportunities that arise from it, said Dr. Ehrhardt. Our visitor gave a lecture on the latest St. Jude hospital survivorship clinical and research experience. The lecture presented Children Oncology Group, COG, survivorship guidelines, recent survivorship care plans, and models of care. The lecture ended with fruitful discussions with our pediatric oncologists and survivorship clinic consultants, exchanging knowledge and experience between the two sides.
